NOVEMBER: A little investment in yourself goes a long way. Healthy skin. Science-led skincare. Making time for you.

BioNovu NovuMask LED light therapy at home

As we move into November, the clocks have gone back, the evenings are darker and the colder weather is beginning to make itself felt. For many of us, our skin is starting to show the effects of the changing seasons too.

Perhaps your skin feels a little drier, looks less radiant or simply doesn’t have the same freshness it had a few months ago. You might be noticing changes in fine lines, firmness, pigmentation or texture that seem more apparent as the years go by.

And that’s perfectly normal.

Our skin changes throughout our lives. Hormonal changes, particularly during perimenopause and menopause, environmental exposure, lifestyle and the natural ageing process all influence how our skin looks and behaves.

But here’s the thing: healthy, beautiful skin isn’t about trying to look 20 again. It’s about looking after the skin you have, supporting it as it changes and feeling confident in it at every age.

At Age With Elegance, that’s something I feel very strongly about. My approach has always been about evidence-based treatments, good skincare and supporting the skin’s natural processes rather than chasing unrealistic results.

So, as we head towards the festive season, I wanted to share a few thoughts on looking after your skin, the benefits of consistency and why investing a little time in yourself can make such a difference.

Healthy skin starts here

Healthy skin starts with understanding what your skin needs

Healthy skin. Science-led skincare. Making time for you.

November is a useful point in the year to reassess what your skin needs. Seasonal changes can affect hydration, comfort and skin barrier function, while hormonal changes can alter elasticity, collagen production and texture.

The aim is not to do more for the sake of it. It is to make thoughtful, consistent choices that suit your skin now.

01 · Seasonal skincare

Why November is a good time to rethink your skincare routine

The transition from summer to winter can be quite challenging for our skin.

Central heating, colder temperatures, wind and reduced humidity can all contribute to dehydration and increased skin sensitivity. You may notice that your usual moisturiser isn’t quite enough, your skin feels tight after cleansing or your complexion looks a little dull.

For women in their 40s, 50s and beyond, hormonal changes can add another layer to this.

As oestrogen levels decline, the skin can experience changes in hydration, elasticity, collagen production and barrier function. This can contribute to dryness, fine lines, loss of firmness and changes in skin texture.

This is why I always encourage patients to look beyond individual products and consider their overall skincare routine.

A good routine doesn’t need to involve ten different products. It needs to contain the right ingredients, used consistently.

Some important considerations include:

  • Gentle cleansing: Avoid stripping the skin of its natural oils.
  • Antioxidants: Vitamin C can help protect against oxidative stress and support a brighter-looking complexion.
  • Hydration: Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid help attract and retain moisture.
  • Barrier support: Ceramides and appropriate moisturisers help maintain the skin’s protective barrier.
  • Retinoids: When suitable for your skin, retinol can help improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven texture and pigmentation.
  • Daily SPF: Sun protection remains essential, even during the winter months.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is people constantly changing products or introducing too many active ingredients at once.

Good skincare is about finding what works for your skin and giving it time.

02 · Photobiomodulation

LED light therapy – it’s about the science, not just the glow

One treatment I particularly love incorporating into skin rejuvenation programmes is LED light therapy.

LED (light-emitting diode) therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, uses specific wavelengths of light to interact with biological processes within the skin.

There is a growing body of research into how particular wavelengths can influence cellular activity, inflammation, skin repair and collagen-related processes.

But I want to make an important point: not all LED masks are created equally.

When choosing an LED device, I believe it’s important to look beyond the packaging and marketing claims. What wavelengths does it actually deliver? What is the intensity of the light? Is there a clear explanation of the technology and its intended use?

I recently shared a reel about coming across a well-known LED mask in a wholesale store. Its packaging made some impressive claims, but what I couldn’t establish from the information displayed was the actual wavelengths of light the device delivered.

For me, that’s an important distinction.

If a product is making claims about collagen, skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing, shouldn’t we be able to establish exactly what light is being delivered to the skin?

As a medical professional, I want to understand the technology, the mechanism of action and the evidence behind what I’m recommending. I believe patients deserve more than impressive packaging and marketing promises.

Science-led LED at home

Introducing the BioNovu NovuMask

This is one of the reasons I chose to introduce the BioNovu NovuMask at Age With Elegance.

What attracted me was the science-led approach, the clearly specified wavelengths and the ability to select different treatment modes according to individual skin concerns.

The NovuMask incorporates 488 LEDs and four specified wavelengths, each selected for a different purpose.

415nm · Blue light

Blue light has been studied for its antimicrobial effects and is particularly relevant to blemish-prone skin. It can target acne-associated bacteria, helping to support clearer-looking skin.

590nm · Yellow light

Yellow light is used in protocols aimed at supporting calmer-looking skin and reducing the appearance of redness.

660nm · Red light

One of the best-known wavelengths in aesthetic LED therapy. Red light has been researched for its effects on collagen-related processes, skin rejuvenation and the appearance of fine lines.

850nm · Near-infrared light

Invisible to the naked eye, near-infrared light penetrates further into tissue than visible red light. It has been studied for its role in cellular activity, tissue repair and recovery.

More than just four wavelengths

The NovuMask also offers six treatment modes: Repairing, Rejuvenation, Anti-Ageing, Morning Skincare, Anti-Blemish and Skin Booster.

It also features adjustable brightness, a built-in timer and a flexible, medical-grade silicone design that contours to the face.

The manufacturer specifies an irradiance of 15–30mW/cm². This describes the power of light delivered per unit area of skin and is another useful technical specification when assessing an LED device.

Why this matters to me

Photobiomodulation is an established area of scientific research, with studies investigating different wavelengths for concerns including acne, inflammation and skin rejuvenation.

That doesn’t mean every LED mask has independently been proven to deliver every claimed result. The evidence for individual wavelengths and applications varies, and the dose and treatment protocol matter too.

However, having clearly specified wavelengths and understanding the science behind them gives us a much better starting point than simply buying a mask because it lights up!

I wanted to offer something where the technology behind the product was just as important as its appearance.

Bringing professional skin treatments and home care together

I love the idea of combining professional treatments in clinic with ongoing home care.

Your skin doesn’t stop needing attention between appointments, and having the opportunity to incorporate LED into your home routine provides another way of supporting your skin.

Of course, LED isn’t an overnight miracle. Consistency is important, and it should be considered part of a wider skincare routine rather than a replacement for professional assessment or appropriate treatment.

And let’s be honest, there’s something rather lovely about taking a little time out for yourself, putting your mask on and simply switching off for a few minutes!

The BioNovu NovuMask is available through Age With Elegance. If you’re interested in finding out more, I’d be happy to explain the technology and help you decide whether it’s appropriate for your skin.

03 · Consistency

It’s not about doing more. It’s about being consistent.

If there’s one message I would like patients to take away from their skin journey, it’s this:

You don’t need to do everything at once. You need a plan that works for you.

We often think about skincare and aesthetic treatments as individual appointments or products. But the best approach is to look at the bigger picture.

Your skin is constantly changing. What worked beautifully five years ago might not be quite right today.

A combination of appropriate home skincare, professional treatments, good lifestyle habits and regular review can help you maintain healthy-looking skin over time.

For some patients, that might mean a good medical-grade skincare routine and regular facials. For others, it might include LED therapy, skin boosters, microneedling or treatments designed to support collagen production.

There isn’t one treatment that suits everyone.

This is one of the reasons I always advocate an individualised approach. Understanding your skin, your concerns and what you want to achieve is much more important than simply following the latest trend.

And this brings me to something I’ve been particularly pleased to introduce at Age With Elegance: our Membership Plans.

04 · Membership Plans

Making the treatments you want more achievable

Let’s be honest for a moment.

Have you ever looked at a treatment and thought, I’d absolutely love to have that done, but I just can’t justify the expense this month?

Perhaps you’ve been considering a course of skin boosters, a collagen-stimulating treatment or a programme to improve your overall skin quality. You know what you’d like to achieve, but finding the money for a larger treatment cost in one go isn’t always easy.

I hear this more often than you might think.

And it’s one of the reasons I wanted to introduce the Age With Elegance Membership Plans.

I don’t believe looking after your skin should always have to be an all-or-nothing decision. Sometimes it’s simply about having a way to plan ahead, spread the cost and gradually build towards the treatments you’d really like.

Our membership plans allow you to make a manageable monthly contribution, which builds up as treatment credit to use towards your chosen treatments.

It means you can budget for your skin in the same way you might budget for other things in life, rather than having to find the full amount whenever you want to book.

Whether you’re looking to maintain your skin, address specific concerns or work towards a longer-term treatment plan, there are four membership levels.

Age With Elegance membership plans

Bronze · £50 per month

A great starting point for those wanting to establish a regular skincare and treatment routine.

After 12 months: complimentary Medi-Facial.

Silver · £100 per month

For those wanting to make a little more of an investment in their ongoing skin health.

After 12 months: complimentary Skin Booster.

Gold · £150 per month

For patients who want to build their treatment credit more quickly and plan a more comprehensive approach to their skin.

Platinum · £200 per month

Our highest membership level, designed for those who want to make a more substantial ongoing investment in their skin and treatment programme.

More than just treatment credit

  • 10% off topical skincare: Enjoy 10% off qualifying skincare products purchased through the clinic or Clever Patients.
  • Exclusive members-only WhatsApp group: Become part of our private membership community.
  • Exclusive offers: Access special offers available only to members.
  • Priority access: Members get advance access to selected offers and promotions before they are made available more widely.
  • Plan ahead: Build your treatment credit gradually and use it towards your chosen treatments.

I particularly love the idea of the members’ WhatsApp group because it gives me a way to share things directly with members, whether that’s an exclusive offer, a new product, a special opportunity or advance notice of something coming up.

It also means members don’t have to worry about missing out when a popular offer becomes available.

Why I think membership makes sense

For me, this isn’t simply about offering a discount or encouraging people to book more treatments.

It’s about helping patients take a more consistent approach to their skin and making it easier to plan for the treatments they genuinely want.

Rather than putting off a treatment indefinitely because the cost feels too much in one go, membership gives you the opportunity to build towards it.

And you don’t have to spend £150 or £200 every month to make a difference. There is a level to suit different budgets.

All memberships have a minimum 12-month commitment, and full terms and conditions apply.

If you’ve been thinking about joining, or would like to understand which level would suit your needs, please get in touch. I’m always happy to talk it through.

Your skin. Your goals. A monthly contribution that helps you plan ahead.

06 · Making time for you

Don’t forget that looking after yourself is important too

I think we can sometimes become so focused on looking after everybody else that we forget to look after ourselves.

November is often the beginning of a particularly busy period. Christmas preparations, shopping, family commitments and social occasions all seem to creep up remarkably quickly.

But self-care doesn’t have to mean taking an entire day off or spending lots of money.

  • Taking ten minutes to complete your skincare routine properly.
  • Wearing your SPF every morning.
  • Having a regular LED session.
  • Booking a facial that you’ve been putting off.
  • Making time for a professional skin consultation.
  • Or simply enjoying a little quiet time without feeling guilty.

And if your skin has been bothering you, don’t feel you have to work it all out yourself. Sometimes a conversation with someone who understands skin can make all the difference.

At Age With Elegance, my aim is to provide honest advice, appropriate treatment options and realistic expectations. I would much rather help you establish a sensible routine that works than sell you products or treatments you don’t need.

A little reminder as we head towards Christmas

Healthy skin is a journey, not a quick fix

Whether you’re interested in improving your skin quality, addressing signs of ageing, introducing LED light therapy into your routine, exploring our Membership Plans or finding the perfect Obagi skincare collection, I’m here to help.

You don’t have to wait until January to start investing in yourself.

Sometimes the best time to start is simply now.

Age With Elegance Medical Aesthetics & Skin Clinic Ltd

Because ageing is inevitable. How we look after our skin along the way is something we can influence.
